About the role:

Internal title: Principal Scientist I

We are seeking a highly driven PhD level scientist with a strong cancer biology background and an inherent curiosity in exploring novel approaches to treating cancer. The candidate will play a key role in generating critical biology insights to drive forward our drug discovery programs contributing directly from the bench as well as towards project scientific strategy.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executes experiments and interprets complex data to draw logical and innovative conclusions, connecting and enabling work of direct reports and/or relevant collaborators within functional community.
  • Key contributor or leader of projects/workstreams within scientific initiatives.
  • Influences and inspires own team and/or brings matrix collaborators together across the organization with eye for progressing teams towards decision points and deepening scientific understanding.
  • May lead several direct reports, or influences through matrix and project networks.
  • Empowered to carry out novel research within team and/or matrix community surrounding field of expertise
  • Influences and achieves results through own scientific and technical strengths and enables innovative contributions of direct reports and/or matrix team within key projects/initiatives/technology areas.
  • Plans and executes approaches to enable/operationalize strategic focus areas.

Essential Requirements:

  • This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 3-5% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).
  • PhD in the biological sciences and a productive post-doctoral research experience (additional industry experience a plus) with a strong publication record and background in cancer biology and genetics.
  • Experience in applying cutting edge tools and technology to advance in depth understanding of target biology, in vitro cellular profiling of molecules and elucidating small molecule mechanism of action.
  • Prior experience with a diversity of skills including CRISPR-based manipulation/engineering of mammalian systems, pooled genetic screens, sequencing technologies, cellular assay development and technologies and clear examples of innovation within the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work highly collaboratively within and across different groups and functions within an organization. 
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and scientifically driven, proficient reasoning skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide timely and open feedback. 
  • Demonstrated ability to present experimental data to diverse audiences

Desired Requirements:

  • A background in cell cycle biology

The salary for this position is expected to range between $103,600 and $192,400 per year.

 

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

 

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
